Voyager Catalog Online search instructions

Note: Use the scrollbar immediately to the right of this text to read the rest of this column.

Enter Voyager by clicking on the SEARCH button.

The Voyager catalog page opens ready to perform a simple search.  You should be at the green "Search" tab at the top of the green box (if not, click the "Search" link at the top of the green box). This is the initial search screen.

You can locate information by Title, Author, Subject, Call Number or Key Word.  You specify what type of information you are trying to find in the "In This" list at the right side of the page.

To search for works by a particular author, click on the "Author" choice in the "In This" list.

After selecting the type of information for your search, you need to enter what you are trying to find.

In the "Find This" box,  type the author's last name and first name, separated by a comma, and click the search button.

For instance, choose "Author" and enter "goodall, jane" in the search box now.  Then click on the "Search" button (you may need to scroll down in the frame window to find it).

A page listing many authors will appear, with Jane Goodall's name at the top along with the number of titles authored by her.  Click on her name now.

A list of titles by Jane Goodall is displayed.  However, this list is showing available items from all of the college campuses.  To see what items are available on this campus only, click on the "Limits" button at the top of the list.  This brings you to a "search limits" menu page.  You'll see many choices that you can make to affect the returned results of your search. In this case, we're just interested in the Location field.  Click your campus name in the "Location" box, then click on "Set Limits".

The previous list of items appears, but now it's a lot smaller, showing only the titles that your local campus library holds.  You can click on a title to view more information about it. (Note: the "Quick Limits" feature on the first search page will not work when searching for authors.)
