Scanning Basics
This is a basic guide to scanning images and saving/inserting them afterwards.

To access the scanning software, do this:
- Click the Start button. Go to "Programs," then "HP ScanJet Software", and then click HP PrecisionScan Pro.

To start scanning, do the following:
- Go to the Scan menu, and click "Preview." The scanner will then scan the image.
- Left-click and drag, using the mouse, to crop the picture. Draw a box around what you wish to keep (if you don't want to use the whole image, that is).
- Now, save it to wherever you wish. In most cases, you'll be saving to your H: drive. So, go to the Scan menu, and click "Save As..." Use the pull-down menu at the top to navigate to your H: drive. Type a name in for the picture and save it.
Note: You should choose .JPG format for photos, and .GIF format for clipart/line-art.

To fix color balance problems:
- Go to the Tools menu, and click "Color Adjustment."
- Click around the color wheel to change the color balance. You can also increase the saturation with the slider at the bottom. Click the "X" when you're finished.
NOTE: If you ever want to reset the changes you've made (while in "Color Adjustment"), just hit the "Auto" button.

To change the resolution the image is saved at:
- Go to the Tools menu, and click "Output Resolution."
- Set it to whatever you wish.
NOTE: For images used for web pages, you should choose a resolution of 75. For images that are to be printed, you should choose a resolution of 200.

To insert a picture into Microsoft Word:
- Go to the Insert menu, then "Picture" and then click on "From File..."
- Navigate to where the picture that you want is, left-click it once, and then press "Insert" in the lower right corner of the pop-up box.
