UW-Rock County Revives Tent Show Comedy

Janesville – University Theatre will present an old-fashioned tent show-style performance at UW-Rock County Nov. 5-8. “Silk Nightgowns & Long Underwear” will be the featured play, in addition to other types of entertainment. The performance will take place in the Kirk Denmark Theatre on the campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The play was first performed by the Schaffner Players in 1925 and ran in opera houses and tents in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois for the next 35 years. This comedy incorporates physical humor and mistaken identities that make for a zany performance. Along with the play itself, the evening will include pre-show and intermission entertainment including a vocalist. A “candy pitch” will also occur – in keeping with the tent show tradition.

H. Gene Biby, UW-Rock County assistant professor of communication and theatre arts, is directing the family-friendly production. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $6 for UW-Rock County students. Advance tickets are available by calling Business Services at (608) 758-6565 ext. 200. Tickets can also be purchased before the show.
