A Cappella Group to Perform at UW-Rock

Janesville – UW-Rock County will host a concert by Redefined on Friday, October 16, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place in the Kirk Denmark Theatre in the Wells Cultural Center on the campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave.

Redefined is UW-Madison’s co-ed a cappella singing group, which has achieved Internet fame with millions of views of their Nintendo Medley on YouTube and other video sites and has appeared this year on TV’s Dateline NBC. Their song St. Theresa was selected for Voices Only 2007, a compilation of the best tracks in collegiate a cappella. The group has also released four studio albums of their own full of unique arrangements of popular tunes.

According to group member Erica Nelson, some of the 17 members of the singing group are majoring in chemistry, Russian, journalism and math education, but none are music majors. The group also has a strong focus on philanthropy, raising more than $8,000 for the American Cancer Society last year.

The event is sponsored by UW-Rock County’s Performing Arts and Lecture Series. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $4 for UW-Rock County students. Order advance tickets by calling (608) 758-6565 ext. 100 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour before the show.

Other upcoming events on the campus include “Darwin, Dogs and the Emotional Life of Animals” with Dr. Patricia McConnell of public radio’s Calling All Pets! on November 12 and “The African Storyteller” with Professor Harold Scheub on November 19. Visit www.rock.uwc.edu/events/ for more information.
