Earn Online Business Communication Certificate Through UW-Rock County
Janesville -- The University of Wisconsin–Rock County Office of Continuing Education offers a non-credit Business Communication Certificate that allows working adults an opportunity for professional development and, for those looking to gain employment, important skills that employers value.
The first course in the series of courses that lead to the certificate, Leading Others Whether or Not You’re the Boss, begins October 12. This interactive, online course explores your definition of leadership, asks you to analyze the work of leaders around you, and engages you in developing a plan for yourself that will enhance your ability to lead effectively. This course is taught by Jeffrey Russell, co-director of Russell Consulting, Inc. and a UW-Madison instructor for the past 17 years. Specializing in the areas of leadership, strategic thinking, planning, performance coaching, performance management and leading change, he earned a bachelor’s degree in humanism and cultural change and master’s degree in industrial relations from UW-Madison.
The Business Communication Certificate was developed from input from community business contacts who expressed a need to strengthen the communication skills and promote team building of employees. Because those employees usually work full-time, these instructor-led courses are online, so participants can complete the coursework at their convenience. Each course stands alone and can be taken for specific professional development skills or students can complete the certificate in one year by completing all five core courses and one elective to earn the Business Communication Certificate. Other courses in the series include: Constructing Clear Messages, Problem Solving & Decision Making, Understanding & Managing Conflict, Effective Business Writing, Creating a Motivating Environment and Building & Sustaining Teamwork.
Each course runs for six weeks and includes six to 12 lessons. Interactive quizzes, assignments, tutorials and online discussion areas supplement the lessons. Fees are $89 per course, or $475 for the six-course certificate program. For further information, or to register, contact Kathy Palmer at 1-800-859-8334.
