UW-Rock County Helps Students Prepare for ACT Exam
Janesville -- High school students planning to take the ACT college entrance exam before applying to colleges can prepare for this test through a series of classes at UW-Rock County. The next session of ACT Strategies, which includes a diagnostic test, a practice essay, test-taking strategies and timed drills, will be held on the campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave. beginning March 14.
The session includes five classes that are strategically timed to help students right before taking the ACT exam on April 4. The first class on Saturday, March 14, meets from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by classes on Saturday, March 28, from 8 a.m. to noon; Tuesday, March 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, April 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Thursday, April 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Students taking ACT Strategies in the last two years have increased their score by an average of 3.5 points from pretest to the actual ACT exam, according to Stacy Randall, continuing education director and coordinator of the program.
The fee for the strategies course is $134. Enrollment is limited, so early registration is recommended. The next ACT Strategies session, the last until fall 2009, will begin in May to prepare students for the June 13 test date.
To register or for more information, contact UW-Rock County at (608) 758-6565 ext. 360. Students must register for the ACT test separately by contacting www.actstudent.org or their high school guidance office.
