Register Now for Live Bat Encounter at UW-Rock County

Janesville – Step into the mysterious world of bats and see the world’s largest bat at an all-ages program on Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in the Kirk Denmark Theatre at UW-Rock County, 2909 Kellogg Ave.
Explore the benefits, habitats and nocturnal strategies of bats with Rob Mies, director of the Organization for Bat Conservation. Mies is a frequent guest on the Today Show and Martha Stewart Living, and has consulted for National Geographic, Nickelodeon and The Discovery Channel. Recently he was seen on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Live with Regis and Kelly and The Early Show. He studied at Eastern Michigan University focusing heavily on tropical ecosystems, environmentalism and conservation biology. He has worked extensively with Indiana bats in the field and is the author of several scientific papers and books, including a field guide to bats called Stokes Beginner's Guide to Bats and Understanding Bats.
Mies will introduce a variety of live bats from around the world, including the endangered golden bat and the Mayasian flying fox bat with a six-foot wingspan. He’ll also talk about why bat conservation is important and what we can do to help these unique mammals.
This program is offered through the UW-Rock County Office of Continuing Education and made possible by the Genecor Corporation in association with the Welty Environmental Center.
Tickets are $5 per person. Pre-registration and payment are recommended. Call (608) 758-6565 ext. 360 to charge by phone or purchase tickets at UW-Rock County’s continuing education office in Andrews Hall between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets may be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
