UW-Rock County Foundation Presents Alumni Awareness Award

Janesville – Cecilia Hladky of Janesville was selected as the recipient of the January 2009 Alumni Awareness Award presented by the UW-Rock County Foundation.

The Alumni Awareness Award, first presented in September 2008, was created to honor UW-Rock County alumni or former students who are recognized for their expertise and good works. These notable people must have attended UW-Rock County for at least one year, completed a higher education degree and distinguished themselves through achievements and service or contributions to Rock County, where they live and work.

Hladky, a second grade teacher at Jackson Elementary School since 2005, first became a student at UW-Rock County in 2001, at the age of 45. She went on to complete a dual major in education and special education from UW-Whitewater in 2005.

While attending UW-Rock County, Hladky felt that the campus was the perfect fit for her. “The setting was not intimidating; as a returning adult student I needed to feel comfortable. The class sizes were smaller than most universities and the professors took the time to get to know me,” says Hladky. She remained a “straight-A” student throughout her return to college and embraced the new challenges she faced.

“I tell everyone who is considering going back to school to go with their whole heart and enjoy the experience. UW-Rock County is still the best place to begin college – it was close to home, the price was right and the campus came highly recommended,” Hladky says.
