Message:
My work is an expression, among other things, of my interest in the puzzling, abstract nature of language, the fugitive and emotive power of color, systemic modes of production characteristic of modern industrialization, and an almost religious examination/mystification of structure. As such, they are inquiry as expression as opposed to emotional reaction as expression, and tend to be quite analytical and conceptual. Not wanting to be too dry and predictable for an audience I try to temper my cool, seemingly serious and sober approach by undermining my logical methodology with subtle visual contradictions and an almost maniacal, obsessive impulse to carry an idea to its furthest end. I find painting's capacity for unifying and harmonizing widely divergent and often conflicting ideas within the same visual structure to be quite remarkable.

In addition, as a visual artist in the twenty-first century, the privileged position of vision in a cultural environment of mass-consumption, mediated by a glut of slick signage, is an important if not omnipresent challenge to my mode of expression.
